My Background
Thomas P. Leavitt, Criminal Defense PLLC was founded in 2017 and since that time I have been fortunate to represent many great clients across the state of Minnesota.

I was born and raised in Minneapolis. As a proud Washburn Miller, I was the first Minneapolis City Conference player to earn a Division I football scholarship in the prior twenty years. I earned that football scholarship to the University of Minnesota where I played for the Golden Gophers in the positions of tight end and defensive end. In my time on the field I developed a reputation for being a smart and aggressive football player, two traits I carry into the courtroom. As a family man and father, I understand the seriousness that a criminal charge brings. Every single client is my most important client and it is my job to stand in their corner and fight for their rights.

A PRESTIGIOUS EDUCATION:
IN THE FIELD:
CREDENTIALS
I earned my Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. U.S. News and World Reports ranks St. Thomas as the top private law school in the state of Minnesota. In 2017, UST Law was named the #2 law school in the United States for practical training by National Jurist. I was taught by a nationally recognized and awarded professor of Negotiations and was awarded the Dean’s Award in that area. I was mentored by some of the most prominent and skilled defense attorneys in the state in Earl Gray, Samuel McCloud, and Ryan Pacyga. As a practitioner with a natural feel for my adversary’s strengths and weaknesses, I do everything in my power to maximize my client’s position at the negotiation table and in the courtroom.
I have aided people across Minnesota in achieving the best possible outcomes in cases involving issues such as drug offenses, DWI, vehicle offenses, robbery, theft, and violent crimes. It is my goal to mount a solid defense and see the charges against my clients dismissed or reduced. In July of 2023, I successfully fought for a reversal at the Minnesota Court of Appeals on a First Degree Controlled Substance charge in a case that carried a presumptive decade in prison and a maximum sentence of forty years in prison.
Whether they have been charged with a misdemeanor or a felony offense, I understand the uncertainty and fear clients are experiencing. I stand by my clients through every stage of the process, working hard to limit the stress of what may be one of the most trying experiences of their lives. Whatever level of accusation you are facing, you can rely on me to fight for your rights
